About Us

Why 22Mohawks

What's In the name?

Sadly, on average, more than 22 veterans die by suicide each day. To us, the mohawk represents the outlier – the person who is not afraid to go against the grain, rise up for what they believe in, and above all, stand tall in the face of adversity. Veterans and those who support them embody the mohawk. When you get a mohawk in support of veterans, you become a part of a movement that is greater than oneself.

22Mohawks is proud to provide assistance to veterans who need help with navigating the struggles of everyday life when they return home from duty.

Be it physical, mental, or financial support, we strive to do everything in our power to improve the lives of veterans while combating PTS and raising awareness for the prevalence of veteran suicide among our former service members.

We are humbled and grateful to have your support.

What We Stand For

Our slogan, “we will do this together!”, is embodied by our simple yet powerful values.

Courage

Carry on despite the feeling of overwhelming pain or fear. Acknowledge when you are feeling this way by saying it out loud. Owning the emotion will not allow it to drive your decisions. We will hold this courage together.

Social Connection

Allowing yourself to accept support during painful moments is critical to your mental health. We are your connection.

Conviction

You must have conviction to persevere. Believing that you will weather the storm is just as important as doing it each day. We are your sounding board for conviction and strength.

      Dave Campisano

      Founder & executive director

Dave Campisano enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2001, serving in both Airborne and light infantry units until his honorable discharge in 2016. In 2009, he graduated from the elite U.S. Army Ranger School and later deployed to Iraq with the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment (Golden Dragons), 10th Mountain Division. Following his military service, Dave pursued higher education at Suffolk University in Boston, earning an Undergraduate Degree in Finance, a Masters in Public Administration, and is pursuing another Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership.

After transitioning out of the military, Dave was deeply affected by the increasing number of veteran suicides. Driven to make a difference, he founded 22Mohawks, a nonprofit organization focused on suicide prevention and veteran mental health. 22Mohawks hosts numerous events each year designed to reconnect veterans and their families, strengthen their support systems, and reinforce the bonds forged through military service. Dave’s mission is rooted in the belief that no veteran should ever feel alone—and that building and maintaining a strong sense of community is essential to healing.

      Director of Networking

Ayman Kafel is an Army Veteran who was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005. He became a police officer in 2007 after 8 years of service in the Army.

Ayman has witnessed war from his first days on earth. Born in Liberia during the Liberian civil war, Ayman and his family were forced to move back to their native Lebanon. Then at the age of 7 the Lebanese civil war brought his family to seek a more peaceful life in America. Ayman has always felt a deep and abiding love for the United States. When we were attacked on 9/11 he immediately enlisted in the Army. “Our family felt that those evils we had escaped, followed us here.”

Aymans experience in both the military and law enforcement led him to join forces with 22Mohawks in November 2021 as the Director of Networking. With Ayman already having an active part in bringing awareness to veteran and first responder suicide it was a perfect fit.

When Ayman is not keeping the streets safe and advocating for suicide awareness you’ll find him in his home gym destroying the weight game, talking all things military / law enforcement on his Project Sepient Podcast or writing articles for Havok Journal.
